About Whisker Why
Cat questions, answered with the evidence attached
Whisker Why answers the questions cat owners actually type into a search box: why cats purr, whether a cat can eat cheese, how old a cat is in human years. Each answer starts with a one-line verdict and then explains it, citing the veterinary or scientific source it rests on so you can read it yourself.
Owner and editor
Erdi Doğan
Erdi Doğan owns Whisker Why and is responsible for everything published on it. Whisker Why is not written by veterinarians, which is why every claim on this site points to a veterinary or scientific source rather than to anyone's personal authority.
How an answer is made
- We start from the question people ask, worded the way they ask it, and decide what a useful answer needs to cover (for food questions: is it toxic, how much is too much, what to watch for).
- We gather the sources first. We rely on the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, the Merck Veterinary Manual, university veterinary schools, professional bodies such as the AAHA and AAFP, International Cat Care and peer-reviewed studies. Forums, brand blogs and unsourced lists are not sources.
- The draft is AI-assisted. We use AI tools to help draft the text from those sources.
- Every claim is checked against the cited source by our editorial process before publication. If a claim cannot be traced to a source, it is cut. Where sources disagree or the evidence is thin, the answer says so.
- Sources are listed at the end of every answer, with links where the source is online.
What we do not do
- We do not invent personal stories, cats, owners or expert personas.
- We do not diagnose or treat. Nothing here replaces an examination by a vet.
- We do not accept payment for coverage. There are no sponsored answers.
Not veterinary advice
Whisker Why is general information for curious and careful cat owners. It is not veterinary advice. If your cat is unwell, injured or may have eaten something toxic, contact your vet or an emergency clinic. In the United States the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center can be reached at (888) 426-4435 (a consultation fee may apply).
